Hammering Hank as he was later called when he broke Babe Ruth’s home run record. He was said to be the greatest hitter since Roger Hornsby but not as colorful as Willie Mays, not as brilliant a hitter as Ted Williams and not as fast as Mickey Mantle. However, he became one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He was a star player for the Milwaudee Braves a team that originated in Boston and later moved to Atlanta where he broke he hit his 715th home run breaking Ruth’s 714th home run. When his career ended he had hit 755 home runs and had scored more runs than any other player in history. His story is very fascinating and his story is very well written by Al Hirshberg. I know you will not be able to put it down.
